A wooden bumper might actually work better than the heavy steel that originally graced that large lump of Detroit iron.

Interesting bokeh. I have the Voightlander 40mm 1.4 & like it very much. I thought the formulas were similar, but the out of focus signatures are definitely different. Your 35 gives a pronounced bokeh, more abrupt than the Summilux 35, and even more abrupt than my 40mm. As I said, interesting. It is reminiscent of the 50mm f1.5 Summarit - but nowhere near as obtrusive. The Summarit or Xenon wide open and focused at 3 to 6 feet turn the background into an impressionistic swirl.

Max, I think the 35 has one more element than the 40, so some difference in optical signature is to be expected.

The wooden bumper is probably effective, but it seems a bit low, doesn’t it? Railroad tie bumpers were not uncommon where I grew up.
