SOFOBOMO Week One: Where have all the Robot Overlords gone?
April 10th, 2008
It turns out that our Robot Overlords are really hard to find when you go looking for them. For overlords they spend a lot of time hiding. I’ve caught a few out in the open, but at this rate, I’ll be lucky to finish the book in three months let alone three weeks. In light of this, I’ve decided to take drastic measures. Knowing that our Robot Overlords first arrived in the Fifties, I’ve ordered a bunch Adox CHS, working on the theory that 1950’s film might help me catch a few more of them. I’ve also noticed that Robot Overlords are suckers for really wide open apertures - something about seeing all the pretty colors reflected in the glass - so I’ll be shooting the rest of the project at or very near 1.4. I’ve dug up the ND filters, so I should be able to catch them even in daylight.

Matt, I used the ADOX CHS for a couple of years and left them, bacuase they are unneccesary grainy. With 35mm you realy lose so many details. HP5 is coparebly rich in tones and much finer in grain. The only thing, that´s sharp in ADOX CHS is the grain structure. But for Robot Overlords that might be o.k. Good luck!

Harm, which of the CHS films did you use? I ordered some rolls of CHS 100 figuring that I might pull them back to 50. Big grain would be fine for this project. I was intrigued by the mention in the marketing text of the adox film’s different rendering of certain colors. I imagine the spectral sensitivity must be slightly different.

yeah for nd’s. this whole overlord thing … when you live very close to a certain church’s hq …
it’s a bit odd hearing that shit.

I don’t understand this robot overlord thing.
April 10th, 2008
Bob, it’s really utter nonsense. I took a picture of some electrical switches, and it reminded me of robots. Around that time I saw a rerun of this Simpson’s episode, in which a character says something like “I for one welcome our new insect overlords.” So I title the photo ‘1point4photography welcomes our new robot overlords.’ It was all down hill from there.

Yeah but, I did a Google search and there are lots of entries for robot overlord. It did not make sense to me and I gave up. Enjoy your robot overlords!
