Hi Matt. Yep. Gotta agree with Graham—she’s a looker alright. I like the really complex expression you caught. (I imagine her saying, “Loooook into my eyes. You’re getting veeeery sleeeepy…” :- ) I especially like how the “S” on her right sort of works with the tousled hair.

Graham, the detail in the hair is somewhat misleading; at full size, the hair is almost like a veil.
Oren, this was exposed for her skin tones, with the result that rest of the neg is pretty thin - probably a bit thinner than it should be - a consequence of the light and the paleness of Kate’s skin. So yes, a pronounced shoulder, I think.
Tom, this was shot with the CV 35 1.4 SC wide open, hence the softness. This lens wide open is great for this kind of light as the veiling flare helps cast a little more light into the shadows.
A great shot Matt. A bit top heavy with that black block above - I’ be tempted to lighten up on this by cropping off a slice. Great use of your lens too.
Marek, that block is a bit heavy. When I printed this, I dropped the background down a bit further, so there is less contrast between the block and the sign behind her. It makes it feel a bit less like bad feng shui.
The CV is a great lens for this kind of thing. It’s propensity to distort and its low resolution are not really a problem for people shots like this, and the way it softens highlights when wide open is great for skin tones.
