HP5 is plastic in the best sense of that word. If the digital camera manufacturers release some rogue virus that destroys every emulsion except for HP5, I could happily continue shooting B&W, but let’s hope that doesn’t happen.
BTW, you shouldn’t interpret that as meaning HP5 will be the only thing I’m shooting. I’ve souped my last roll of it for a while, and a pile of Delta 400 and TriX is waiting in the wings.

I always thought HP5 had an interesting character - deeper blacks than Tri-X (totally unscientific conclusion). I have been enduringly loyal to Tri-X, but I must admit - there is a lot to be said for the old Ilford approach.
Still my favorite photo site. You actually - overused word - inspire me to return to B&W photography. So busy with earning a living right now, putting two daughters through school, that I seldom pick up one of my treasured cameras and do what I really enjoy doing. Please keep it up - there are so few genuine photographers on the web. Everyone is selling something. You are different.
My best to you and Kate - your incredibly patient model.

Thanks, Bernhard.
Max, thanks for your kind words. I hope you do find time for photography. I find I have to sneak it in 15 minutes at a time, but it’s worth it.
HP5 does have a slightly different look. I don’t know if the blacks are deeper, but I think they look at little cleaner.

I also am inspired. I am impressed not only withe the sheer quality of the image, but the beauty of composition and model as well. Very well done.
