Matt Great review of a wonderful camera.
My Black Hexar AF was for a long time my only Camera.
I still adore it for street/lo light level work.
I finally got a DSLR; a Penatx K100D. Even with that cameras very good high ISO performance with a 50/1.4 FA lens the Hexar AF is a very tough act to follow.

Nice shots, the type the Hexar was made for!

Before sending it off for repair, there’s a couple of things you might consider with regard to focusing.

1. The focus aim spot is not parallax corrected, so if you are trying to focus on something small & up close, you have to make sure that it’s not focusing on the background instead.
2. On some Hexar AFs, the shutter release button gets sticky causing the focus system to not engage. I’ve seen instructions of the web for resolving this issue, but I don’t have the links handy. The leica forum on photo.net or http://www.rangefinderforum.net would be good places to start.

In either case, paying attention to the parallax correction of the frame lines can help determine if it is focusing on the correct spot. If the lines don’t move in, it’s not focusing.

hi. Nice review. I got one recently and have put about 10 rolls through it. I’ve been noticing inconsistencies in focusing. Anyone know of a shop in the UK that can works on Konica gear?

If you or anyone has a pdf set of instructions for the Konica Hexar AF I’d sure like to get a copy; if you or anyone had a manual they could copy I’d be happy to pay for postage and copying. I too sold my AF and now I want another, and many of the ones I’ve seen on eBay and elsewhere do not come with the instructions. I recall the booklet wasn’t all that good on the many and wonderous combinations of commands: has anyone got a list of them online?
